Hi Everyone,

We just returned from taping 10 TV shows in TWO days for kayewoodtv.com, and it was quite a marathon. These shows are currently being edited and will be introduced one at a time on Kaye's TV website. Carol Ingram and I shared the shows, but even at that it was exhausting. There was no shopping time at all! I mean really - none!

Granted we were in a very small town - Midland, MI, - but still, they had a mall - unlike our little town in Franklin, NC. But sadly, we only got to poke our heads into the bookstore and get a book-fix before we left.

Carol Ingram, Mary Ann Castillo and Joyce Drexler in the Detroit airport.
We met the nicest lady on the plane on the way up there. Actually, Carol met her while sitting in the Detroit airport knitting. She introduced herself and said she loved to knit, too; so when we got there, we exchanged knitting patterns and ideas. Her name is Mary Ann Castillo from Saginaw, MI, and she told us about a great yarn shop up near Midland that had just opened, and we had hoped to go one evening, but alas, that was just a pipe dream. Next time we'll build in some leisure time up there! We spend a lot of time in airports and a lot of it is devoted to knitting or doing handwork with Sulky 12 wt. Cotton.

Patti Lee, our VP of Consumer Relations, has just started doing needlepunch using the Sulky 12 wt. Cotton Blendables. She says she finds the Blendables very forgiving in doing needlepunch just like they are in quilting because of their randomly changing color pattern. Mistakes are not nearly as noticeable with mottled colors as with solid colors. And never having to separate floss or rethread your needle is heaven.

Our newest book is close to being done, Sulky Stabilizer Supplement is filled with new and exciting projects that use the newest Sulky Stabilizers that were not available when we published our best-selling book, Sulky Secrets to Successful Stabilizing in 1994. Wow! Has it really been 14 years! That book was and is just chocked full of all kinds of wonderful projects and it continues to be a best seller today.

We will be offering a special package price for the Stabilizer book and the Stabilizer Supplement together, or you will be able to just purchase the Supplement if you already have the Stabilizer book. I'm very excited about the cutting edge projects that will be in the Supplement.

I'll tell you more when the book actually goes to press this summer.

Until next month - Express Yourself!

MORE ABOUT KAYE WOOD TV

As Joyce mentioned, we just taped 10 new TV shows for kayewoodtv.com but, IN ADDITION to those shows, there are about 10 of the original PBS-TV shows that we did with Kaye over the years that are now available for you to watch at your convenience on this website.

These original shows include some very popular projects from our books, and one show that never appeared in a book but that I still get letters about, which is Amber's Patriotic Quilt. Amber is Joyce and Fred's granddaughter who was 11 at the time she made her first quilt and this TV show. This was shortly after 9-11, and it inspired her to make a really beautiful log cabin quilt featuring a flag in the center of each block in honor of those who died, and their families.

Joyce helped her pick out the navy blues and reds from her stash to frame an American flag. On the show, Joyce explains what happens when you don't use a traditional center square for a log cabin, and that it works out just fine.

Since it wasn't in a book, I don't have a finished picture of the quilt itself, but there is one in the show, and here are some close-ups of the blocks and quilting:

Evelyn Byler, Designer and Long-arm Quilter for Sulky of America,
did the quilting on Amber's quilt.

Simple, but beautiful quilting, even on the back! Doesn't this just make you want to make one for someone special in the military or just for your home? Amber used 2-1/2" strips to frame the flag, and her quilt ended up being a queen size quilt, but of course you could make it whatever size you wanted.

If you could not find the perfect flag fabric for this project, you could always find a photo of the flag that you like and copy it onto printer fabric on your copy machine.

Joyce also shows a wonderful log-cabin redwork project by Carol Ingram, Designer and Educator for Sulky, which was made by copying a log-cabin pattern onto Sulky Paper Solvy on a copier to make it into a paper-pieced, log-cabin project.

Sulky is a proud sponsor of the KayeWoodTV.com website. With our sponsorship it allows you, the viewer, to enjoy all the programs on KayeWoodTV.com FREE of charge. Just log on and watch 24/7. Each month we'll tell you more about some of the programs that are currently running on kayewoodtv.com and each new program that is introduced.

I find it inspiring and soothing to "listen" to the programs while I work on the computer. I open the program in one browser and work in another so there is no disruption to my work at any time. The thing I like best about this website is the ease of watching the shows. You don't have to sign up, you don't have to log in, you just go to the website, choose "Category", choose "Sulky", and let the good times roll! You can pause a program and do whatever needs to be done and come back and continue watching or listening to it. It's "sew" easy. Thank you Kaye for keeping it simple!

UPCOMING SULKY TEACHER CERTIFICATION CLASSES

No - you don't have to want to be a teacher to take these fun classes. Some attendees just come to have fun, and it turns out everyone does.

Pat designed this Pizzazz Pedestal Pot for you to learn and make at the Sulky Teacher Certification Trainings!
Pat Rodgers,
Sulky National Free-lance Educator, says:

"I'm a wild blend of artist and teacher. I'm an entertainer full of information and techniques that I can't wait to share with students at quilt and sewing shops, guilds and seminars. Every new product on the market opens the door to new techniques, and every stitch leads me in a new direction.

As a machine artist and teacher, my goal is to see my techniques come alive through other hands and minds. I hope to expand the ways in which students see and make artistic choices. I love seeing students experience an explosion of creativity in their work."

She is all that and more. You couldn't learn all she has to share in a MONTH of classes!
