Hi Everyone,

As you read this, my husband, Fred, and I, along with Jason Prater, Patti Lee and Carol Ingram, are no doubt walking miles of aisles at the International Quilt Market in Houston, TX. While we are gone, Patti's husband will puppy-sit our black toy poodle, Bright (who is now a year old!) One of Patti's dogs is a St. Bernard, just a year old as well. Here's a picture of Bright (my 9-pound poodle) "abusing" Teddy the 110-pound St. Bernard who seems to be enjoying it.

Anyway....
The Quilt Show is a grand event that goes on for10 days each year. The first half is a market for storeowners and other retailers in which we have a booth to showcase all the new Sulky products and samples. Then, when the wholesale portion is over, they reset the entire George Brown Convention Center to accommodate consumers like YOU; and more than 50,000 attend each year! So, if you ever have the chance to attend this magnificent 5-day show, which is called Quilt Festival, don't miss it! This year's dates are October 29 through November 2. We also have a booth at this event, which is "womanned" (and sometimes "manned") by our Sulky National Educators. Be sure to stop by and say hello to our wonderful, friendly educators at any of our consumer events. (Don't forget to print out and take your money-saving coupon that you will see below.) Look for the list of all the upcoming consumer shows and Sulky "Sew Exciting" Seminars at sulky.com

This year we will be introducing these new Sulky Products:
Two new stabilizers, Tender Touch and New and Improved Heat-Away Clear Film; New 20" wide rolls in affordable 5 yard put-ups in the 6 most popular styles for the largest hoop sizes on the market today; And my latest book, An Updated Supplement to Sulky's Secrets to Successful Stabilizing.

There are often busses going to this event from quilt shops and quilt guilds around the country. If you love quilts and quilting, it's a life-changing event. The quilts that are shown will change the way you think about quilting forever. I still remember my first Quilt Market and how it began my never-ending quest for more creativity, more fun and more meaning in my quilts. This doesn't mean just bed quilts either. Today, time is such a precious commodity that very often my "quilts" are in fact, lap quilts, wallhangings, wearables and home-dec items.

It took me awhile to realize that "quilting" pretty much can be done on any sewn item. The art quilts (along with traditional quilts) that are exhibited here are spectacular and inspiring. Another truly inspiring event is the Paducah, KY, spring event. The whole town gets into this and it is so much fun. Again, busses from all over the country arrive for this event. I'm sure there are thousands of designers out there today that got their start and inspiration from attending one of those events.

If all this chaos in our country and around the world has motivated you to do more meaningful things for yourself and your family, consider treating yourself to a "mini" Sulky Special Event. You don't have to plan to be a teacher to attend one of our Sulky Teacher Certification Trainings. What you learn will just be another step in your personal sewing education. Getting together with a group of women who love to do what you love to do is so rewarding and good for the soul. There is just one remaining event in Kennesaw (Atlanta), GA, November 13-15. This event includes a tour of the Sulky warehouse facilities, allowing participants to purchase virtually any Sulky product at huge savings! Fred and I will be dropping in to visit with the attendees during one of the days.

See all of the Sulky Teacher Certification projects at sulky.com. Whether you teach at your local sewing store or sewing or quilt guild, you will be glad you did. Many of the guilds also do wonderful charitable work and there is a great need for giving at this juncture in our history.

So reach out and learn new techniques and new projects, and have fun. I don't know where September and October have gone, but it seems that Fall always picks up speed. I always look forward to it because it is just such a pretty time of the year. With all that is going on in the world, it's good to stay present in the moment, count all the gifts we have in our lives, and treasure our family and loved ones.

SMOKY MOUNTAIN QUILT GUILD

It was a fun October in the mountains of Western North Carolina. Joyce Drexler, Patti Lee, Carol Ingram, and Nancy Sapin from Sulky, were the back-up team for Sue Hausmann, Sr. Vice President for VSM (Viking/Pfaff/Singer) and host of "America Sews with Sue Hausmann", for an event she presented to our local Smoky Mountain Quilt Guild. Sue was scheduled to fly into Cincinnati from Sweden, through Paris, on Sunday, October 12th and then drive the rest of the way to Franklin, NC that night to host the event on Monday morning. Well, of course, her plane was held up in Paris, and she did not get into Cincinnati until 7:30 Sunday night. So the 4 of us were prepared to host the event in case she didn't make it - but she did! So, in addition to Sue's fun and fabulous presentation, the guild got Joyce, Carol, Nancy and me (Patti) there to do mini-presentations as well. (This only happened because it is our hometown!)

Above: (left to right) Patti Lee, V.P. Consumer Relations for Sulky; Joyce Drexler, co-owner and Creative Director for Sulky; Nancy Sapin one of the wonderful Sulky National Educators; Sue Hausmann, Sr. V.P. of VSM, and Carol Ingram, Designer for Sulky. This was taken following a great meal at Kenny G's Corner Café in Franklin (owned by Patti and her husband, Kenny). (Such a shameless plug!)

Nancy's demo included her amazing corded bowls! She has just taken this technique and gone wild with it. (From the book Quick and Easy Weekend Quilting with Sulky (#900B-16.)

Patti Lee demo'd the ever-popular Faux Woven Scarf from the books: Sulky Secrets to Successful Stabilizing (#900B-11) and shown also with many other similar projects and techniques in the book Sulky Secrets to Successful Embroidery (#900B-15).

The vest Patti is shown wearing at the end of this newsletter is also done with this same technique.

Joyce showcased many of the projects from her newest book An Updated Supplement to Sulky's Secrets to Successful Stabilizing (#900B-17). Look for it now in your favorite sewing store or purchase it online at speedstitch.com.

THOUGHT FOR THE MONTH

To get something you never had, you have to do something you never did. And with that in mind, here is the Free Project of the Month...

FREE Project of the Month

Embellished Vest from Fabric You Love!

By Kathy Stachowicz, Author, Designer, Educator. Excerpt from the book, Patchwork Concepts In Sulky (#900B-9).

We all have fabric that is just too pretty to use, and heaven-forbid we should cut it up! This is a twist on "Whole Cloth Vests" featured in a later book, Sulky Secrets to Successful Quilting (#900B-13) in which we used decorative threads to embellish the vests; but in the book, Patchwork Concepts in Sulky (#900B-9), Kathy shows you how to take a beautiful piece of fabric and use the design elements in that fabric to guide you to further embellish the fabric. Her techniques include: Couching down yarns, making couch weft fibers, knotted straps, as well as couching sequins, cross locked beads or molded beads, and then adding prairie points strategically on the garment. This project is fun and easy, and will inspire you to actually use some of your favorite fabrics and embellishing notions in your stash!

There is also a Consumer Newsletter Archive on our website so you can read back issues. For more information on any of our products or programs contact me at asksulky@sulky.com or visit sulky.com..
