Hi Everyone,

Where has 2008 gone? I think it's true that years pick up speed as you get older! I hope all of you have had as much fun as I have making Christmas gifts this year. I have heard from so many of you that this year's "necessity" of sewing has been an unexpected pleasure. Giving the hand-made gift is truly a gift from the heart anytime, but even more so this year.

Needless to say, some of my gifts will be gifts "in progress", and may not be quilted or bound when they get wrapped, but it's still a surprise! And then it's a surprise all over again when I finally finish it! (I know some of you out there are nodding in agreement!)

We just got back from taping two PBS-TV shows for "America Sews with Sue Hausmann". My show was a follow-up program promised last series, taking us "Beyond Bowls". So many of you have had such fun making the corded bowls, and we've taken it to another level by adding creative lids and 3-dimensional decorations. Our son, Eric, joined me again on this show to share his creative enhancements to the basic corded bowl. Eric showed an avante garde trivet and a set of coasters in a matching basket with rolled-hem bows on each handle. A terrific hostess (or in Eric's case, host) gift!

Here's a candid shot from the set, of me, Sue and Eric getting organized.

Eric also cut up a pair of his jeans and did a rolled hem on one edge of the strips and wrapped those into a nice masculine-looking bowl. Eric puts his own spin on the finished edges of the bowls using 3-dimensional loops in one or two rows. It's always fun to see what a man can do with their way of creative thinking. Eric learned sewing machine repair from his dad, Fred, when he was just a young lad of 16. Then he went on to manage the store a few years later. So he has grown up very comfortable around sewing machines and sewers and quilters.

I was thrilled to have several of Nancy Sapin's bowls with wonderful embellishments to share. Nancy is a Sulky National Educator who has turned this simple project into a creative wonderland! There are marvelous things you can do with Sulky Fuse 'n Stitch in conjunction with the corded bowls. We also showed a number of bowl lids with various types of "handles".

It's not too late; you can whip up a holiday bowl in a couple of hours with just clothesline, a little fabric, and some beautiful Sulky Cotton Blendables! The basic instructions for the bowl are in our book, Quick and Easy Weekend Quilting with Sulky (#900B-16). We wish all of you a Blessed and Merry Christmas and Happy Holiday Season.

INTRODUCING THE EVEN BETTER SULKY KK 2000 - GREEN!

    Safe for You . . .
  • Exclusively Non-Flammable
  • Non-Toxic
  • Odorless and Clear

  • Safe for the Planet . . .
  • Ozone Friendly
  • No CFS'S or HCFC's

  • Maximum Coverage . . .
  • Very High Ratio of Active Ingredient to Propellant
  • Minimal Overspray

The cans with the GREEN LIDS contain a new formulation that allows you to spray even closer with virtually no staining. Spray about 6 inches from the receiving surface.

LOOK FOR THE NEW CAN WITH THE GREEN LID AND EARTH LABEL.

Still the great product you have come to love but with more emphasis on the "Green" components so important to all of us today. Sulky Temporary Spray Adhesive contains HIGHLY CONCENTRATED, non-flammable material combined with an improved directional valve and low-pressure spray to eliminate wasteful over-spraying.

You still get as much coverage with a small can of KK 2000 as you get with the larger cans because KK 2000 is highly concentrated; combine that with a low-pressure propellant and state-of-the-art spray nozzle and you get a precise spray pattern that you can direct exactly where you want it. No wasteful over-spraying.

The improved spray nozzle allows closer spraying without fear of propellant build-up.

SULKY CO-SPONSORS THE 2009 HOFFMAN CHALLENGE

As most of you know, we discontinued the Sulky Challenge several years ago mostly as a result of the direct hit that our Florida facility took from Hurricane Charley. We are really delighted to now be able to co-sponsor the prestigious Hoffman Challenge, which has a long, rich history of encouraging and rewarding creativity. Since numerous past entrees in the Hoffman Challenge have featured extensive and often dramatic uses of Sulky Decorative Rayon, Metallic and Cotton Threads, we love being able to co-sponsor this Challenge going forward so that we can acknowledge and reward the best of future entrants who use Sulky Products. Consumers know they can Quilt with Confidence with Hoffman Fabrics and "Create with Confidence"™ with Sulky Products. Now, they can do it all in one big contest. Go to hoffmanchallenge.com for much more information and to fill out your online entry form.
