Latest PBS TV Show
On the set of Fons & Porter's "Love of Quilting" PBS-TV program, Eric Drexler, National Sulky Educator, shows Liz Porter the magnificent "Living Color" Three-Dimensional Leaves wallhanging, which was designed by Heidi Lund. This project is shown, step-by-step, in our most recent book, An Updated Supplement to Sulky's Secrets to Successful Stabilizing (#900B-17).
Heidi has used this fabulous 3-dimensional technique on one of the magnificent garments that she made for the prestigious Bernina Fashion Show. She is a well-known fiber artist, and is one of the designers featured in our new "Sulky Designer Thread Collection Series". For more information on all of the fantastic Thread Collections, see below.
Heidi received rave reviews as she demonstrated this technique in our booth at Quilt Market and Quilt Festival in Houston earlier this month. Her 3-D project is also featured in our Sulky "Sew Exciting" Seminar called "Sulky Creative Art of Stabilizing". Click here to see if one is coming to your area:

Sulky 12 Wt. Cotton For Counted Cross Stitch
Here is an enthusiastic, unsolicited testimonial from Sherry Bouchard, Alberta, Canada. She shared this photo with me that shows Sulky 12 wt. Cotton Blendables being used for her beautiful Counted Cross Stitch work:
"I just wanted to show you my little Sulky thread 'experiment' I did! I was in our local quilting store a couple of weeks ago and saw your beautiful threads. I'm not a quilter but I Cross Stitch and had a thought...these might work perfectly for Cross Stitch! And oh boy, do they ever! I stitched this on 25-count lugana fabric ... using the 12 wt. (Sulky Cotton Blendables) and it turned out so pretty. I was so excited I shared it on my favorite Cross Stitch board and, my gosh! So many ladies loved how it turned out, too, and are ordering your beautiful threads like crazy!
I just finished a really pretty Christmas pattern with the Blendables and love how it looks! I see lots of your beautiful threads in the future of us Cross Stitchers. I just wanted to share my experience and say 'thank you' for such a wonderful thread even us non-quilters can use! I love this thread and it is stunning when used in Cross Stitch." ... Sherry
Thank you, Sherry, for your enthusiasm and for sharing your beautiful work with us. Lots of people are discovering that Sulky 12 wt. Solid Color Cottons and Cotton Blendables are perfect for many forms of handwork.
"I have recently started playing with Punchneedle, and the Blendables are just spectacular for that, adding dimension and texture just because of their random color changes. I met Marinda Stewart at Quilt Market in Houston, and found out that she has just written a book called, Punchneedle, the Complete Guide, by Krause. This book contains some really spectacular Punchneedle projects and Marinda recommends many of our threads for this handwork, too.
It is so convenient to use because the thread winds so easily off of the spool of thread, rather than having to continuously deal with tangled floss and skeins".

Announcing The Locations For The 2010+ * Sulky Certified Teacher Training Events
*(2010 plus, because we have continued the events into early 2011 in the "warmer climates" for the snowbirds.)
This year's events have been so successful and well received that people are already signing up for the 2010+ events without even knowing exactly where they will be or what will be taught! We are very flattered and grateful - thank you! As Michele and Kathy work to book the hotels where these events will be held, there may be some minor changes to these locations; but they should generally remain in the areas shown.
We are very grateful for your input via our questionnaires and our web survey, and as a result of what you told us we have added 8 additional locations this year.

Hoffman Announces Winners Of Their 2009 Challenge
As most of you know, we discontinued the Sulky Challenge several years ago mostly as a result of the direct hit that our Florida facility took from Hurricane Charley. We are really delighted that Sulky is now co-sponsoring the prestigious Hoffman Challenge, which has a long, rich history of encouraging and rewarding creativity. Since numerous past entrees in the Hoffman Challenge have featured extensive and often-dramatic uses of Sulky Decorative Rayon, Metallic and Cotton Threads, we love being able to co-sponsor this Challenge so that we can acknowledge and reward the best of future entrants who use Sulky Products. Consumers know they can Quilt with Confidence with Hoffman Fabrics and "Create with Confidence" with Sulky Products. Now, they can do it all in one big contest. Go to hoffmanchallenge.com to see the 2009 winners and get your entry form for next year.
Sue Moats, Freelance National Educator for Sulky of America, and well-known long arm quilter, made the vest shown here out of the Hoffman 2010 Challenge fabric. This vest was proudly displayed in the Sulky booth at the International Quilt Market and Festival.

Some Thoughts for the Month
"Life is tough... but even tougher if you're stupid" - John Wayne
or to paraphrase him, my friend Carol Ingram says...
"If you're gonna be stupid, you've gotta be tough!"
and here's my favorite:
"If stupidity got us into this, why can't it get us out???"

FREE Project of the Month
A crazy-patchwork, "paper-pieced" block, from the book, Sulky Secrets to Successful Stabilizing #900B-11, using Sulky Super Solvy.
Suzy shows us how to use Sulky Super Solvy to make a "paper-pieced" crazy-patchwork pattern that is fun, quick and easy, with no paper to tear away when the block is done. Since this book was published, we have also introduced Sulky Paper Solvy, which can be used when you want one or many patterns for paper piecing. Paper Solvy can be run through an inkjet printer and dissolves quickly away in warm water.
If you are ever unable to find any of the Sulky Products or put-ups that you are looking for locally, there are 2 Mail Order/On-Line sources that have, in stock, every Product and Put-up that Sulky makes. They are www.speedstitch.com - 1-866-829-7235 and www.uncommonthread.com - 1-877-294-5427. Either of these sources will have the books and other Sulky products you will need to make this project.
