All colors of Sulky Rayon thread are wash, boil and light fast and can be dry-cleaned.

Washing:
All embroidered articles should be washed with mild laundering agents. If necessary, Sulky rayon thread can also be washed with heavy duty detergents. However, some of these detergents may contain optical brighteners that can cause discoloration. If you choose to use heavy duty detergent use one that does not have additives or bleaching agents such as chlorine, peroxide or sodium carbonate.
If washed by hand AMPLE WATER should be used to allow the goods to move freely and rinse thoroughly.
It is important to thoroughly rinse the embroidery before wringing or dry spinning
Embroidered clothing should not be left lying in a damp pile, especially if the item is being washed for the first time.

Dry-Cleaning or Stain Removal:
Sulky rayon thread may be dry cleaned.
Stain removers must not contain any bleaching agents or color removers if they come into direct contact with the embroidery.
It is necessary to rinse the embroidery after stain removal.

Ironing:
All embroidered items should be ironed on the reverse side or between two pieces of cloth.

Drying:
Tumble dry on low setting.

  • Most people find that Sulky 40 Wt. Rayon thread is easier to use for machine embroidery than any polyester thread because it has less stretch and stretch memory. Because of polyester's added, unnecessary strength, it causes acceleration of wear on the machine's moving parts and in the bobbin and needle thread path.
  • Thread breakage while doing machine embroidery can be caused by designs that are improperly digitized, causing stitches that are too long, and/or jerky hoop movements.

  • Use a size 12/80 machine needle with Sulky 40 Wt. Rayon thread unless the thickness of the fabric/stabilizer calls for a 14/90. It can also be used in the bobbin on projects where you want to have the same color bobbin thread as top thread.
  • All Sulky thread spools have at least one "snap spool" end - including the King Size, Maxi-Spools, and Jumbo Cones. Gently lift up the end with your thumb, release the thread, then snap it closed. To secure the thread when your sewing is completed, gently lift the end with your thumb, wind the thread into the gap, and snap it closed.
  • The decorative stitches on virtually all sewing machines are programmed to use 40 Wt. Rayon Thread. A lighter or heavier thread may require an adjustment to the stitch length or width, depending on its density.
  • When enlarging computerized designs, 30 Wt. rayon thread will fill them in more completely than 40 Wt. rayon thread.
